Milton Community Band

MCB Music Director

The Milton Community Band is pleased to welcome our new Music Director, Phil Mears.

Phil Mears is a life-long resident of Milton, Vermont. He started in music when he joined the beginning band at Milton's School Street School in 1973. After graduating Milton High School in 1981, he attended Keene State College in Keene, NH. In 1985 he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Theory.

From 1985-1988 Phil served on active military duty as a member of the U.S. Army with the 24th Infantry Division Band stationed at Fort Stewart, Georgia. Upon completion of active military service, he returned to Vermont and enrolled at Johnson State College earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education. In 1989 Phil joined the Vermont Army National Guard where he continues to perform as a member of the 40th Army Band.

Phil's teaching career has been varied - teaching in tiny to large schools, vocal and instrumental music, general music classes, and directing band programs from beginning to college/community levels. Phil currently teaches band at Milton Elementary, conducts the Milton High School Stage Band, and co-teaches the Milton Middle School Band.

Phil Mears has been a quiet but effective supporter of the Milton Community Band since its inception. The Band knows him as a dedicated and innovative educator at the elementary school, the teacher in whose room we hold our rehearsals, and as a talented musician and substitute conductor willing to help when needed.
